History of C

Before we start to move on Programming language it is too important to know about its history to understand some questions like Why it came? When it came? Who made?

The history of all programming languages is as given below in series.


FOUNDER OF C: DENNIS RITCHIE.

IT WAS DEVELOPED BY DENNIS RITCHIE IN 1972 AT BELL LABORATORIES OF AT & T(AMERICAN TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH) IN USA.
  1. First of all programming language named ALGOL in the year 1960 which was developed by INTERNATIONAL GROUP.
  2. The second programming language is BCPL came in the year 1967 by Martin Richard.
  3. Language B in the year 1970 Ken Thompson.
  4. Traditional C in the year 1972 by Dennis Ritchie.
  5. K & RC  in the year 1978 Kernighan & Dennis Ritchie.
  6. ANSI C in the year 1989 ISO Committee.
  7. ANSI/ISO C in the year 1990 ISO Committee.
  8. C99 in the year 1999 Standardization Committee.

Unary Operator

What is a Unary Operator? Unary Operators are the operators which require only one operand. While binary operator requires two operands and tertiary requires three operands. Unary operators are: +, -, ++, --, sizeof() 1) + and -   Note: (+) and (-) are not of addition and subtraction but it denotes only sign of operator as positive or negative. Ex. +1, +2, +3... -1, -2, -3... 2) ++ and -- It seems to be  ++ (two plus-plus), But it is a single operator. It is called the increment operator . Increment operator are of two type: i) Pre increment ii) Post increment The meaning of both the increments is the same. i.e To add +1 in  any value x++ or ++x; or to increase the value by 1. x++ is x=x+1 where x is a variable.
